I responded to some of my colleagues blogs. They were GREAT! I loved the creativity of some and the sincerity of others. I had an easy time giving people compliments and reinforcement. However, truth be told, I had a hard time asking questions that would inspire them. I am hoping as the topics become more involved I will begin to pose more thoughtful insights and/or questions.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received my first comment, probably because we weren't at that step yet. It wasn't a lengthy response but it did make the experience feel "real." I believe through comments we feel we are truly heard is the essential reason for commenting. Otherwise it would be as though you were just putting your thoughts and ideas out into a digital void.
The importance for students would be the same as it is for adults...to realize someone else is listenting. It gives them authentic purpose and meaning for their writing. And most importantly, writing becomes active rather than passive.
I anxiously await to read more of my friends' comments! Keep 'em coming.

How true! I loved what you wrote about, "..to realize someone else is listening.... authentic purpose..." Perfectly stated. I can't wait to read more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteI agree! It's always exciting to get new comments! (hint hint)
ReplyDeleteWell written! The linking to the blogs you read was well done. I agree that as time goes on to hopefully be able to add some questions.
ReplyDeleteI think what you said about our students is important. Much of the writing we ask them to do has no audience, whatsoever, and they know it. They don't even believe that WE read all of their work. So why should they work hard on something noone is going to read?
ReplyDeleteWell stated! As I read through your blogs I can hear your voice. Each thing you say has positive intonation.
