Thing 6: Ning

Wow!  There is just so much information on this application.  I went into a couple of sites, specifically The Future of Education and Classroom 2.0.  On the Future one, I found numerous links to listen to "gurus" discuss educational issues.  You can watch it live or they record it and you can check it out later using "ellumination."  (http://www.elluminate.com/company/about-us.jsp)   It seemed like a simliar format to our Learning Bridges but no time limit on when you can watch it.  Classroom 2.0 was full of members from all aspects of the educational world.  I jumped on the discussion board to see what it was like.  I was blown away at the number of responses one teacher received regarding, "How are you using video conferencing with upper elementary students?"    Apparently we are missing out!  Someone shared about "Edu-Skyper's Phone Book" especially for educators who want to connect.  Note -to-self: check this out! http://skypeintheclassroom.wordpress.com/

If I had to put this in simple words (I blame it on the day job) it seems like a contained, focused, somewhat proteted, website with useful tools and information.  I did sign up for it but my membership is still pending.  I am very excited about this new resource!

  1. Yes, Elluminate is a great tool and it's free for up to 3 people. So, it could be used e-office hours.

Good catch on video conferencing. I think we should be doing more with it. We have done quite a bit in our MSG. Now it's time to bring it to the US.

  2. You found some Nings that I overlooked. I am going back to search out the ones you mentioned.
